The Riverhead Town Board is expected to approve a clearing permit for Knightland, a proposed shopping center on the corner of Route 25A and Sound Avenue in Wading River, at its regular meeting today.

The board had planned to approve the permit in August, despite a pending lawsuit challenging the Planning Board approval of Knightland, but a last minute court ruling put that vote on hold. Now a state appeals court ruled last month that the Riverhead Neighborhood Preservation Coalition and others who brought the lawsuit don’t have legal standing to do so. The case was dismissed.

The Town Board discussed the issue briefly at its work session on Thursday and appears set to approve the clearing permit. The Knightland plan calls for 32,500 square feet of retail space and a 4,900-square-foot restaurant in a complex
comprising 24 small buildings. It is owned by Kenney Barra, who owns the adjacent East Wind Caterers.

The meeting starts at 2 p.m. and New-Review reporter Tim Gannon will be live blogging. Click below to follow or comment, and see the full meeting agenda and resolutions packet below that.
